Non-Profit Crapolla
Most of us contribute as much as we can to those around the world who need it more than we do. I guess it's the Human thing to do. We really do try and take care of each other.
There are a couple of things about Non Profit organizations that people don't always take the time to think about. The amount of our donated dollar which actually gets to that poor child in India, or Central America, or Africa for instance. Not suprisingly it's something like pennies on the dollar.
I once worked for an organization who had over 120 staff, and five locations just to support about thirty teenaged boys. Sure, the services provided to the boys were necessary and helpful to the childrens growth into society, but soo much overhead. I won't make the judgement here that in some certain circumstances a huge budget isn't necessary, but it does give one pause to wonder just how much is enough.
I think what I'm saying here is that we should always investigate where our money is going. Why not donate to a well established and reputable organization like the American Red Cross, or the Cancer Society where we are assured that our money will be put to good use.
If we choose to give our money to our pet local charity we really should check them out before giving them money that may possibly be better spent elsewhere. For future information, non profit organizations are required to post yearly income information to the IRS and can be viewed at www.GuideStar.org .
